7 x 7 Training Adventures in the Eastern Cape

I have had a wonderful week at home in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape and really enjoyed the change of scenery for training!

I did 48km this week and it was great to have a change of scenery!

Monday 17th December 2012 - 800m swim in the DSG pool

On Monday I had a trip down memory lane and training in the DSG pool! My first swim in here was when I was 11 years old when I started at DSG in 1991! It was lovely and warm and I really enjoyed my swim! I did 32 x 25m lengths!

Tuesday 18th December - 8 x 400m on Lower field, St Andrews College, Grahamstown

This is the field that we had all our sports days at and many hours of athletics training when I was at DSG from 1991 - 1997! I haven't run on this field in 15 years and the memories all flooded back..it was so special! I went off on the first 400m thinking I was 16 again and went way to fast but it was amazing!

Wednesday 19th December - warm up walk on the farm & 10 x hills repeat

What a beautiful day! I was out by 6:30am and it was already a scorcher of a day! I started with a warm up walk around the farm, and saw springbuck, blesbuck with 2 new babies, hartebeest with a new baby, eland, mountain reed buck, impala and peacocks and their babies too! Such a treat to train here!

I think I woke this little guy up from his sleep - Springbuck

Hartebees family with their new baby - too precious!
Fairwood Nature reserve - home in GHT, Eastern Cape

After the gentle 2km walk warmup, I faced the hills! And had the eland watching me looking very confused at what this crazy person was doing running up and down a hill over and over again! It was quite hysterical watching them watch me!

The eland checking me out - watching me to do hill training - too funny!

The hill! and the eland are the little specs at the top of the hill!
So blessed to have the opportunity to train in such a beautiful place! Have a wonderful day!

Thursday 20th December - 12km run along the Port Alfred road R67

I woke up at 5:30am and had a cuppa coffee on the deck whilst watching the waterbuck and hartebeest family ... too beautiful!

Then eventually at 6:30 hit the road! Today the eland were chilled and parking off under a shady tree but once I got not the Pa road I have a 1 ears horse and donkey checking me out - you just have to love the Eastern Cape country side!

It was a beautiful cool morning with stunning scenery! I have really enjoyed running in the Eastern Cape Counrtyside!

Friday 21st December - 2km sunset walk

My dad and I head out to enjoy the exquisite sunset and then went for a short little evening walk!

Saturday 22nd December - 18km run along the R67 Port Alfred road

I was off at 6:30am and greeted by the fellow deer! Its is a hot hot hot morning and absolutely beautiful!! The scenery is so stunning, I really just absorb it all! Thanks Dad for bringing me another bottle of much needed cold water! I saw lots of bird life, baboons, a mongoose crossing the road, cows, donkeys, eland and zebra!

Nothing better than a Super M after a long run!

Sunday 23rd December - 6km run along the R67 Port Alfred road

I managed to sneak in a last run in the EC before we hit to road to JHB! It was a beautiful sunrise run and lots of animals were out and about!
