14 weeks to go...to the adventure of a life time begins!

In exactly 3 months time, I will be on this ship, sailing through the treacherous drake passage, headed for Antarctica to take on the challenge of the Antarctica Marathon (42.2km).  This will be the first of a marathon on each continent in 2013 to raise funds for widows and orphans of South Africa! If I achieve this challenge of a marathon on each continent in 1 year, I will be the first woman on the African continent to achieve this!

Fundraising Target update for Oceanites NPO to get an Antartcia Marathon Entry!

There is a 5 year waiting list to get an entry for the Antarctica marathon, but each year there is 1 entry available to an eager marathon runner who is up for a challenge to raise funds for Oceanites www.oceanites.org

I have reached 19% of my fundraising target to get an Antarctica marathon entry! Thank you so much to all my generous supporters for the birthday wish contributions! I really appreciate it!

If you would like to contribute to help me make this 7 x 7 dream a reality and significantly impact the lives of South African widows & orphans, please do so by clicking on this link: http://www.givengain.com/activist/74673/projects/4110/

My training in summary for the last week:

Monday 26th November 2012 - 600m swim in the 90 Thomson Bay Tidal pool
It was an exquisite Ballito evening..just perfect and I swam 600m in 20mins at the tidal pool. It was almost full moon and the moon was glowing off the waves, it was quite breath taking! It was just what I needed to end a fairly stressful day - sometimes this 7x7 journey becomes quite overwhelming...and Monday was one of those days where it all seems a bit daunting!

Tuesday 27th November 2012 - 5km speedwork 7 x 400m
We had a great speed work session! We did 7 x 400m at 100% effort! And boy Jenny pushed me, it was awesome! Thanks Jen :)

Wednesday 28th November 2012 - 7km Hills training My 33rd birthday!
I had a wonderful start to my birthday meeting up with cheerful runners, Tammy, Jenny & Dennis and birthday brownies which I had for breakfast after our run :) I started my hills training on Wednesday to conquer those Antarctica Glaciers! We did 7 x hills and will build on that over the next 14 weeks!

Thursday 29th November 2012 - 8km boardwalk / beach run
Mmm it started off by having left over birthday cake for breakfast with coffee @ 5am, it was delicious ... Luckily birthdays are only once a year :) then an awesome 8km boardwalk / beach run!  My mileage so far for this year is 1333km!

Friday 30th November 2012 - Kettlebells
Had a brilliant hour of kettle bell swinging!

Saturday 1st December 2012 - 14km Holla Orange Trail
What a fun, muddy morning we had at Holla. Tammy and I did the Orange trail, 14km and we slipped & slid all over the place but had sooo much fun and had such a laugh....we were muddy from head to toe by the end! It was a beautiful morning out with exquisite scenery and lots of birdlife!

Sunday 11th November - 7km boardwalk run
I went for an awesome, gentle 7km boardwalk run - it was a gorgeous morning, with lots of eager fishermen out & everyone could see me a mile away in my new bright pink takkies :)

Summary of the week
Total km for the week - 41km
Total Hours for the week 7.5hrs
Total km's for November 113km
Total km so far for 2012 - 1354lm

Snippet of current news regarding Antarctica

NEWSFLASH: 'Marine snails in seas around Antartica are being affected by ocean acidification, scientists have found. Experts say the findings are significant for predicting the future impact of ocean acidification on marine life. The marine snails (pteropods) are an important link in the oceanic food chain as well as a good indicator of ecosystem health. Oceanic acidification is a result of burning fossil fuels as some of the additional carbon dioxide is absorbed into oceans'. (BBC News)
